Folding women’s underpants & briefs: 3 simple methods

Folding women’s underpants and briefs uniformly is a real challenge for many people due to the different cuts and the rather narrow fabric pieces. We show you three different techniques that can be used for classic briefs, strings and panties. These methods are suitable for different organisation systems and storage or transport purposes of your underwear.

Method 1: Roll up underpants

Probably the easiest method for folding women’s underpants is to roll them up. To keep all the briefs in even rolls next to each other in the drawer, you should internalise the following scheme and repeat it for each of your briefs:

Fold up the crotch of your briefs or your string so that it is flush with the waistband of your underpants. Now roll up the pants from one side to the other. Then place the end facing down in your underwear drawer. Done!

Method 2: Fold underpants for travel

To prevent your underwear from unfolding easily in your drawer or in your suitcase when travelling, there is a technique that allows you to securely bundle your briefs into a pack or roll. This method is a little more elaborate:

Start by rolling the waistband in tightly from top to bottom until about 2/3 of the crotch is still visible. Now turn the pants over so that the crotch is on top. Fold both sides of the rolled part onto the crotch area and fold this fabric over the remaining part of the crotch so that the whole underpants become a small rectangle. Now turn the underpants from right to left by folding the pocket that is recognizable as a slit around the rest of the underpants. Now the underpants should no longer be able to unfold.

Method 3: Fold briefs into a square

The square is also a very simple and popular method of folding pants. With this technique, you can overlap your underwear in the drawer to save a lot of space while keeping all your belongings in view. To do this, proceed as follows:

Fold the crotch upwards towards the waistband as in method 1. Instead of rolling up the underpants from right to left, simply fold both sides in the middle so that they lie on top of each other. Now turn the underpants over and stow them folded into a square safely in your drawer!

Folding boxer shorts: The best technique for more space in drawer & suitcase

You can also fold boxer shorts in many different ways. Since the most compact variant is also the simplest and ideal for travelling, we would like to explain just this one method to you. Of course, you can use this folding variant not only for boxer shorts but also for men’s briefs, boxer briefs and other types of men’s underpants.

Lay the underpants straight and smooth in front of you. Now fold in both sides towards the centre to form a rectangle. The edges should lie smoothly on top of each other and not protrude. Now fold the upper part, i.e. the waistband of your boxer shorts, down in the middle. Tuck the leg cuffs, which are at the bottom, into the waistband so that they don’t fall out. Turn the pants over and press the package flat to save even more space. Voilà!

More tidying tips for pants & laundry

Besides folding pants, there are a few other ways to bring order and structure into your underwear drawer. We give you popular tips for sorting and stowing panties and explain how bras and tops can also be sorted easily and quickly.

Sort by colours, cuts, or materials

To bring more order into your underwear drawer, you can not only fold your briefs and boxer shorts but also sort them uniformly! For example, create a row for white, black, and coloured underpants. Depending on the colour of your clothes or bra, you can now go straight for the matching underpants.

For men, the order according to materials or cuts is particularly suitable. For example, put all the trunks in one row, all loose boxers in the next and all the tight or seamless men’s briefs in the last row. Likewise, you can sort by thinner materials and warmer fabrics to cater for any temperature. There are no limits to your imagination when it comes to sorting your underwear!

Organiser systems save folding underpants

The advantage of folding and sorting underpants is that you can see all your briefs and boxer shorts from above and find the right underpants for your purposes straight away. If folding each pair of underpants is too much work for you, special organisers offer the same advantage.

These storage boxes and drawer inserts come with larger compartments to sort your underwear by cut or colour as described above. You can also find small systems in which you can sort your underpants individually to save you folding.

Stow bras & tops

Unfolded and loose bras can also look untidy in the lingerie drawer. You can fold tops quite easily into rectangles. To avoid a long search for the right colour and the resulting chaos, we recommend sorting the tops by colour.

Bras, on the other hand, are not so easy to fold. Instead, there are special storage boxes available as well. You can also hang your bras on hangers or arrange them in a row in your lingerie drawer. Always make sure to close the bras so that the hooks don’t get tangled in the other bras and destroy them.
