Should you wear a turtleneck when you have a large bust?

Now that the colder temperatures are here, the turtleneck is a favourite companion. But women with a larger bust size are often reluctant to wear one. We say, forget that! A big bust and a polo-neck go together perfectly! It just comes down to the styling!

You often hear it said that women with a larger bust should avoid wearing turtlenecks – because they just emphasise their curvier shape even more. But we say that’s nonsense! The styling is the most important thing. Follow these tips and you will be able to wear a turtleneck whenever the mood takes you.

Styling tips

  • The most important rule for wearing roll necks with a fuller bust is that the material has to be right.

  • Wear a well-fitting bra underneath, as your bra is much more visible under a tight-fitting turtleneck than with a classic jumper.

  • Light colours and small patterns can make you look bigger, so are best avoided.

  • Big bold patterns and dark and muted colours flatter your curves.

  • Avoid small pleats or patterns which stretch across the bust, as these draw the eye automatically to that area.

  • Emphasise your waistline – use a belt to slim the midsection of your body and draw the eye from the bust to your waist. Particular attention should be paid to this when following the current trend for oversized clothing.

  • Layering! Wear a turtleneck under a wrap dress, cardigan or blazer. When layering, you can actually choose light colours or small patterns. A long cardigan or a coat can also elongate your shape when you have a large bust.
