Econyl: what makes these fibres so special?

For us, sustainable action includes using innovative fibres. ECONYL® is a particularly smooth and soft fabric that’s gentle on the skin, and made from 100% recycled nylon obtained from old fishing nets, carpets and fabric scraps. Products made from ECONYL® are therefore regarded as being particularly environmentally friendly.

Fishing nets are used to make ECONYL®.

What is ECONYL®?

ECONYL® is recycled nylon, launched in 2011 by an Italian company. ECONYL® is made from waste such as fishing nets, old carpets and fabric scraps that would otherwise pollute the environment. Since the 1960s, fishing nets have been made from synthetic materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene and nylon (polyamide). So, if these are not recycled, they take several hundred years to decompose on the seabed, making a significant contribution to the plastic pollution of our oceans. The waste collected to produce ECONYL® is converted back into nylon using an innovative regeneration process (ECONYL® depolymerisation).

Characteristics of ECONYL®

ECONYL® fibres can be recycled countless times, without losing their special characteristics. The quality of ECONYL® regenerated nylon is just as good as that of conventional nylon, but much more environmentally friendly. Our tip: as ECONYL® fibres have quick-drying properties, ECONYL® styles are ideal for your next holiday or trip.
