Wedding dress secret: the right underwear makes all the difference!

The right bra for your wedding dress: there’s always a solution!

When it comes to bridal underwear, choosing the right bustier, in particular, is often a delicate matter. Many brides-to-be worry about not finding the right bra, particularly so if the unusual cut of their wedding dress means a standard bra would be visible. But there’s no need to worry, when it comes to finding underwear suitable for wedding dresses, there’s a solution to suit each dress. With the help of CALIDA, every bride can find a suitable bra option for her wedding dress – one that’s invisible, exceptionally comfortable and the perfect fit for her figure.

Flared princess/A-line dress: accentuate your waist and hips

Princess dresses with tight bodices and flared skirts are a real childhood dream for many brides. For this A-line cut, it’s all about emphasising the narrow and wider areas without showing the bra. Since the fitted top finishes around the navel, a bustier or corsage should be chosen about the same length. The slight shaping effect makes the waist look slightly narrower, while the hips appear wider.

Deep V-neck, open back or lace: make your bra invisible

If your wedding dress has a deep V-neck or open back, or if the bodice is made of continuous lace, it may seem almost impossible to find a normal bra that doesn’t show through. You can get special bras suitable for backless wedding dresses, which wrap around the waist and fasten further down; although this may not be a suitable enough solution for lace tops. For these, you could try a stick-on bra or self-adhesive, nude-coloured nipple pads. Sticky straps will also provide a secure hold.

Trumpet/mermaid wedding dress: the right shapewear

Close-fitting or trumpet dresses are becoming increasingly popular with brides. To make sure you don’t spoil the elegance of this beautiful dress style, no underwear should be visible underneath the dress. For this reason, we recommend opting for seamless briefs and shapewear that you wear under your dress in addition to a bra. Whether you opt for shapewear dresses or pants, it’s up to you.

When the choice of briefs under the wedding dress is super important

Choosing the right briefs is also important if your wedding dress is tight or sheer. To avoid having a VPL, you can either wear a string or opt for seamless panties; although the latter look less elegant and sexy, many brides feel more comfortable wearing them.

Since you probably want to freshen up before the wedding night anyway, you can save your chic lingerie and elegant nightwear for then too. For your wedding celebration, the more practical, more comfortable and, above all, less conspicuous, the better.

Just like with bras, you can also get your hands on self-adhesive brief options. These are particularly suitable for wedding dresses with a high slit that goes over the hips. Since dark or coloured underwear can easily show through under white wedding dresses, you should always make sure that you choose briefs that match your skin tone – the same thing goes for bras and shapewear too.

More bridal lingerie tips: practical & chic details

In addition to the tips above, there are a number of ways to perfect your bridal lingerie visually and practically. If you want to wear stockings or tights, you can opt for seductive lace stockings in combination with suspenders, for example – an elegant look that will keep your stockings in place better too.

To uphold tradition and wear something blue, many brides also wear blue garters in addition to stockings and suspenders. Another tradition is to have your and your partner’s names or wedding date embroidered on the lingerie, so you can cherish your bridal underwear forever.
